The must-have outfit combination you need in your breastfeeding wardrobe

With three kids, I’ve had a lot of practice with dressing for breastfeeding. It can be so hard to find something that looks good, is comfortable, and that you know you can feed your baby in without awkwardly exposing yourself to the world!

So, here is my number-one outfit combination that I recommend to breastfeeding mums out there. It’s easy, can look super stylish, and there are many, many variations!

….Shirt and Pants!

Shirts and pants are the ultimate combo for breastfeeding! You can dress casually for a variety of daytime activities, dress it up for evening, or wear to work. Button-ups, t-shirts, or long-sleeve tops. All can give you easy breastfeeding access and can look great with a nice pair of pants. I usually prefer a loose top as it is easier to feed in, but a tighter, stretchy top can work well too.

Cross-over tops

Purpose made breastfeeding-friendly tops, like this cross-over flap top from Saturday Vibes, are perfect for your breastfeeding journey.  Tops like these are stylish and practical, and shout 'Cool Mum Vibes', so that you can feed your babe with ease, without sacrificing your personal style.

Button-Down Shirts

Button-down shirts are fashionable and functional for breastfeeding mums. They allow easy access and can be stylishly paired with jeans, linen pants, or skirts. Opt for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, which are gentle on both your and your baby’s skin. Oversized button-downs can also double as light cover-ups if you prefer extra privacy while feeding in public.

Loose-fitting t-shirts and stretchy tops

For a more casual look, loose-fitting T-shirts or stretchy tops can be very practical. You can simply lift the hem for access, and if you choose a particularly loose shirt, it can easily hide any post-baby body concerns you might have. You even have the option to pair them with nursing tanks underneath for added privacy and support.

Tips for Choosing Good Breastfeeding Clothes

Flexibility and Fit:

Your body continues to change after delivery, so choose clothes that are flexible and adjustable. I have found loose tops to be the most practical.

Ease of Use:

Select clothes that allow you to breastfeed easily with minimal adjustments. You shouldn’t have to struggle with your outfit to feed your baby.

Layer Up:

Layering can be a stylish and practical way to breastfeed easily. A nursing tank under a loose cardigan or shirt allows you to feel covered and comfortable.

Building a wardrobe that suits your breastfeeding journey doesn’t mean sacrificing style for functionality! By choosing the right pieces, you can feel confident and comfortable, making the breastfeeding experience a little easier and more enjoyable. Remember, the key is to find what works best for you and your baby, ensuring that both of you are happy and healthy.
