During all my pregnancies (I've had three), I've struggled to find maternity clothes that do more than just fit.A simple Google search will tell you what I and other women already know to be true: most fashion brands don't seem to care much about maternity clothing. T-shirts, trackpants, and unattractive frilly dresses are there in spades, but if you're trying to find an on-trend item with a bit of colour and style... good luck.
While basics are good, women deserve more options than this.
Usually, I like to dress with bright and vibrant colours and interesting shapes and cuts. So for my most recent pregnancy, I aimed to keep my sense of style as much as possible throughout. And it was no easy task. Trawling the internet for hours in search for something on-trend with a bit of colour is not my idea of fun for a Friday night. And I found myself thinking, again, why is it so hard to find good maternity clothes?

Given that so many women end up becoming mothers at some point during their lives, it seems strange that more brands don't cater to them. Women are vibrant and creative, with complex identities that go beyond the traditional stereotype of a 'mother'. We deserve clothes that make us feel great, look good, and reflect our individual sense of style. Not just another striped stretchy dress. Many of the clothing options on offer to us can have a significant impact on our confidence and sense of self. And this is why great maternity clothes are so important.What our bodies undergo during pregnancy and breastfeeding is nothing short of amazing. But it's also really tough. As all mums know, pregnancy takes a real toll on your body, and you do not end up coming out the other side of it looking the same way you did going in. Adding this to having to wear clothes that look dowdy and matronly can make things feel even tougher.
Who says you can't wear the same item during pregnancy, breastfeeding and beyond? Great maternity clothes are clever, and do just this. They have the ability to empower, affirm, and support women as they navigate one of the most memorable periods of their lives.
Modern maternity fashion needs to be as diverse and vibrant as the women who wear it, allowing them to maintain their individuality and continue expressing themselves just as they did pre-pregnancy. By prioritizing style, and not just comfort, maternity fashion can help women maintain their confidence and grace throughout motherhood. They deserve it.
